Water Stewardship

When was the last time you worried about water? When you go to the kitchen and turn on the water, it’s there. If you walk outside to turn on the hose, you will find the same thing. It may seem that, for some, this is not an issue of concern. The fact of the matter is, we can’t make more water and there is a limited supply. In recent years, many have become more environmentally conscious, which has created a shift to use our resources in unlimited ways. For others, it is simple economics. As water prices continue in an upward trend, it is less desirable to waste those dollars on water. Compile that with another fact, courtesy of the EPA, more than half of the outdoor water used is for watering lawns. In the U.S., more than seven billion gallons per day are used outdoors.

Approximately 50% of water use goes to waste due to evaporation, wind, improper system design, or overwatering. In most cases, there is a solution to reduce that waste. We simply need to be willing to take the time to address the cause and find a solution. This may include Turf Conversion, Turf Removal, Water Auditing, or making use of smart technologies like Smart Controllers or Soil Moisture Sensors. At Xeriscapes Unlimited, we take pride in assisting our clients in creating the outdoor living spaces they enjoy while maintaining civic pride and reducing water waste.
